for Isabel and Carolina

Isabel and Carolina, thank you for summarizing the life of Alfredo and publishing it here on our blog. I've written it again with some changes. Please take a look at the new version (from the teacher) and compare it to the original below.

from the teacher:

Alfredo Quinonez Hinojosa is a brain surgeon, a cancer researcher and a professor at Johns Hopkins University, with a degree from Harvard Medical School.

His first home was a broken down camper truck he paid 300 hundred dollars for. One day he was sad. Tears came down  his face.

One day Alfredo's cousin told him to study English, and he went  to a community college to take English classes.  Alfredo went to Berkeley University and discovered a passion for scientific studies.

Alfredo continued to study medicine, became a doctor, and today is a neurosurgeon and professor at Johns Hopkins University.

for Danuta and Hendri

Thanks, Danuta and Hendri, for writing and publishing your summary of Alfredo's story. I have written it again below and suggest you read and compare my version with the original version, consider the differences:

from the teacher:

Alfredo was born in Mexico. When he was 5 years old he started work with his father in a small gas station.
He lived 60 miles south of the U.S. border.

When he was 18 years old he became a teacher. and the same year the economy of Mexico collapsed.
And then he made a hard decision to come to the U.S.A.  His first job was as a farmworker. He worked hard picking tomatoes , cotton and cantaloupes, and with his first pay check he bought a small camper for $300.

Then his cousin told him he would be a farmworker for the rest of his life.

Alfredo thought it was time to move on.  He started with English classes. Then his teacher  encouraged him to attend  the University of California. Alfredo went to Harvard Medical School . He gave the commencement speech (like Steve Jobs at Stanford), and the same time he received his U.S citizenship.
Now he is neurosurgeon and professor at Johns Hopkins University. At present he is looking for medication for brain cancer.......!!!!

Alfredo was born in Mexico. When he was age five he worked with his father in the gas station. He continued studying until he became a teacher at the age of 18.

In the mid-1970, Mexico's collapsed and his father couldn't keep his family so he was unable to do it either.

He made a decision to head north. Twenty years ago Alfredo hopped a border fence from Mexico into the U.S. so he became an immigrant farm worker.

He lived in a broken-down camper  because he paid $300 dollars for it. And his cousin told him he would be a farmworker for the rest of his life.

Alfredo took the class of English at a community college. Later, he attended the University of California, Berkeley because a teacher encouraged it.

Alfredo developed an interest in the scientific method.

At present,  he is a neurosurgeon and professor at Johns Hopkins University and a researcher who is looking for the breakthrough in the treatment of brain cancer.

For Roberto

Let's look at your writing about Alfredo.

I have re-written it with some corrections. This time the changes are in capital letters so they are easier to see.

The grammar is fundamentally correct. You clearly understood the story and accurately summarized it. There are some errors of past tense verbs and word order.

English spelling is famously difficult. I recommend you use the "spell check" (ABC above on the right side). I use it and find it convenient.
