TV as Your Good Friend and Teacher

Shin, Yoong Ah

Watching TV will make your English better. Actually, there is not much opportunity for a foreign student to meet and make native friends in the U.S.A. However, you can get along with TV. Watching TV will make you listen, speak and write better.

First, you can improve your listening comprehension by watching TV. We can understand the situation well because we listen while looking at the scene. Also, most TV programs are so intereting that you watch TV for a long time. Then, the more you hear, the better you can listen and comprehend.

Second, you will speak well after you can listen and comprehend well. You can talk following the conversation on TV. You can also use words appropriate to a situation, if you watch TV a lot.

Lastly, you will also improve your writing. You can get a lot of information from TV. Then, you have many things to write, so you can write more interestingly and fluently.

Watching TV a lot will be your good tutor . From today, enjoy your time with TV. TV will make your life better in U.S.A. TV encourages you, so you will listen, speak, and write English well.

I think you're right that television watching can help language learning. It is a good alternative to conversation with another person.

When you are in a different country, even TV commercials are interesting because they are different from what one is used to. But after you have spent some months in the new place, you begin to judge the quality of the broadcasts. It isn't easy to sustain an open mind, is it?
