reply to Freddy's post

 Freddy,

Your conversation is well-written and interesting from the viewpoint of the ideas in it.

I've written some comments below.

1. a. Hello Charlie, how long did most recent rest in Europe last ?

2. b. Hi Clark, it lasted 2 week, how long did last flight between Bogota and Madrid ?

3. a. It lasted 12 hours, how long did last marriege with Johana?

4. b. It lasted 4 years, how long does it takes you to get from work to park?

5. a. It takes 30 minutes, how long will it takes you to study aviation in Peru ?

6. b.Last 3 years, how long does to take a daily driving in New York ?

7. a. It lasted 3 hours, ok Charlie goodbye.

8. b. Clark, goodbye.

Every language, Spanish, English, Chinese has a lot of small points, so some errors are inevitable. Your conversation has few.

-The first sentence (a) is correct, but you should use a possessive adjective ("your" vacation).

- In the second sentence (b), "week" should be plural ("weeks"), and the question should have this form: (How long+ did+ Noun+ last). The NOUN here is "your flight between Bogota and Madrid"

How long did+ your flight between Bogota and Madrid+ last.

Also, you should put a period (.) not comma (,) at the end of sentences that are not questions.

The question in 3 should end with "last"

How long+ did+noun+last? (the noun here is "your marriage with Johanna." You can fix that one.

Number four  is correct (but there should be a period (.) not a comma (,)

Number five has only one error. Remember that after "will" the verb is always "base form," so "take" not "takes" is correct. The base form is the form in the dictionary, with no conjugation (for example, the base form of "went" is "go."

In number six, the answer should be: It took 3 hours.

Remember, there are two different forms:

FORM 1. How long did it take (you) to VERB

Answer: It took (me) 3 years to VERB

FORM 2. How long did +Noun+ last?

Answer: It lasted three hours.

So the question in six should be: How long does it take you to drive daily in New York? ("daily" can be in other parts of the sentence also, after "you" or at the end).

But number seven, the answer to number six, should be the answer for FORM 1.
