More and more owners are renting their properties instead of selling them. The prices for new apartments are really low right now. Thats why the owners are renting them because they want to wait for the prices to go up and then sell. Also, loans are harder to get because you need good credit and a job. However two years ago people just had to have a pulse to get a loan.

I especially like the sentence about people just needing to have a pulse to get a loan. The housing bubble has burst and sanity has returned. Maybe now we can all afford a place to live.
