It has nathing to do with language or culture they just play for fun, but in the classrom is different story becouse non English speaking students are separeted from the students speaking English. Amalia is a student at Hylton High school that came to the unites state 18 months ago from Guatemala speaking no Enghish. She studies in an ESOL programs .
ESOL is English for speakers of other language, where students who don't speak English are separeted from English speaking students.
This programs has one goal. The goal is for help all the ESOL students pass the exam for graduation. The program is good in helping ESOL students but it separeted the students speak English and ones don't.
According to Amalia this programs have advantage and desadvantage of ESOL classes. One of the advantage is the teachers try to explain averything as much possible. One disadvantage is that almost all her classes are ESOL,so she doesn't get a chance to practice English with students from the regular classes.
Amalia hopes to became a doctor one day but the language barrier makes it hard, so her goal is to learn English first.

"A High School on the Front Line"

This article takes place in a high school in suburban Virginia. There are students from many different countries. They all play soccer together. It has nothing to do with language or culture; they just play for fun, but in the classroom it is a different story because non English speaking students are separated from the students speaking English. Amalia is a student at Hylton High school that came to the United States 18 months ago from Guatemala speaking no English. She studies in an ESOL program.

ESOL is English for speakers of other languages, where students who don't speak English are separated from English speaking students. This program has one goal. It is to help all the ESOL students pass the exam for graduation. The program is good at helping ESOL students but it separates the students who speak English and ones who don't.

According to Amalia this program have advantages and disadvantage. One of the advantages of ESOL classes is that the teachers try to explain everything as much as possible. One disadvantage is that almost all her classes are ESOL,so she doesn't get a chance to practice English with students from the regular classes.

Amalia hopes to become a doctor one day but the language barrier makes it hard, so her goal is to learn English first.
