My Partner the teacher

My partner is the teacher of this class. His name is Kevin Lathrop, and he has been a teacher at this school for a few years. He used to teach writing but he found he prefers listening and speaking. The intermediate levels, three and four, are his specialty, although he enjoys teaching all levels.

Kevin grew up in New York City, arriving here when he was six months old and staying ever since. He has a B.A. degree in film-making and an M.A. degree in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages. He is a creative person. His pleasure is making art, of whatever kind. In addition to his creative work, he has a love of learning, studies languages, reads a lot, enjoys movies and ideas and generally enjoys himself in his free time. His new hobby (for the last four years) is exercise. He runs but found he enjoys playing basketball more than running.

He said he is especially happy to be at Laguardia in Spring Semester, when even New York City looks beautiful and fresh. His present goal, he said, is to help his students learn the English they need to communicate effectively and thrive in New York.
