Yes, Yuja was 6 years old when she began tinkering with the keys. In Yuja's case, pinch hitter means a replacement for another pianist at a performance.

I think she avoids "crowd-pleasers" because she wants to challenge herself and her audience with more difficult music.

I am glad you find her story interesting.
